How to record a practice drive and when the instructor presses a button
Inssi records the practice drive and assesses it using the criteria of Traficom's driving-test guideline. The app measures speeds, accelerations, turns, indicator use and the driver's gaze by itself. The instructor marks only what the sensors cannot see: situations where they had to intervene, and how the handling tasks went.
Before the drive
- Fix the phone in a mount in landscape on the windscreen or dashboard so that the ROAD view shows the road and the DRIVER view shows the driver's face. Landscape gives the road camera the widest view.
- Check the status rows. GPS: accuracy shown. Driver: face detected. Plug the phone into a charger – two cameras drain the battery.
- Press START DRIVE. Recording starts after a 10-second countdown. Take your hands off the phone before zero. During the drive the driver does not touch the phone.
During the drive – when the instructor presses a button

Handling tasks
The driving test includes at least two handling tasks: reversing, parking, U-turn or hill start. Press the task's button right after it and choose:
- Succeeded – the driver did the task independently, safely and while observing the surroundings (mirrors, blind spot, looking back), without the instructor's help and without hitting anything.
- Did not succeed – needed the instructor's guidance, hit the kerb or an obstacle, observation was missing, or the task was abandoned. One retry is normal, several are not.
What you don't need to mark
Indicator use, speeds and limits, acceleration and braking, mirror and blind-spot checks, pedestrian crossings and traffic lights on the route – the app measures these itself.
What kind of drive matches the test
- At least 45 minutes in traffic. A shorter drive gives an indication, but the report tells you what is missing.
- At least a third of the time on roads with a limit of 60 km/h or more, and always some 80 km/h road.
- Urban driving with pedestrian crossings, junctions and traffic lights.
- At least two handling tasks.
- Scores 1–5 in four areas: handling (K), consideration for other road users (T), anticipation (E), self-control (O). Fail: any area 1, two areas 2, or an immediate danger.
After the drive
- Press END DRIVE and confirm. The app detects the indicators from the video's audio, then removes the audio track from the video and sends the sensor data for analysis – neither the video nor the audio.
- The report opens automatically: result, areas, map with observations, comparison with the previous drive.
- The Share button gives you a link and an image for a parent or instructor. The link contains no video and not your name.
- Video takes space (about 150 MB / 10 min). Delete it from the Drives list by swiping when you no longer need it – the report stays.
The assessment is not Traficom's assessment and does not guarantee passing the driving test. Responsibility for the drive always lies with the driver and the holder of the learner permit.
